Blender 3D
Model Generator

Blender AI is a 3D model generator that lives inside Blender: describe the asset, get editable geometry at your scene scale, then clean it up and export OBJ, FBX, GLB or USDZ from the same file. No download, no locked mesh, no import repair.

A stylised medieval house with a tiled roof and timber beams, generated as a 3D model in Blender

How do you generate a 3D model in Blender?

Write a brief that a human modeller could work from, then treat the result as a first pass. Three facts do most of the work: object, scale and destination.

Prompts that survive production
Low-poly medieval house, tile roof, timber beams, 6 m wide, game-ready
Wrought-iron street lamp, 4 m tall, stylised, Unreal Engine
Modular sci-fi crate kit: small, medium, large, same style, snapping edges
Ceramic teapot, smooth surface, product render, 1.5 L
Cartoon fox character, upright, 1.2 m, ready to retopologise
EXPORT

Which formats can you export for your engine?

The exporter is Blender's own, so every format Blender writes is available without a conversion step:

  • glTF / GLB - Web viewers, three.js, Godot, and the default output of most AI 3D generators
  • FBX - Unity, Unreal Engine and MotionBuilder pipelines, including rigged characters
  • OBJ - Neutral interchange for DCC tools, renderers and older pipelines
  • USDZ - Apple AR Quick Look and USD-based review workflows
  • STL - Slicers and 3D printing, where a watertight mesh matters more than materials
  • .blend - The native file, which keeps the asset editable for the next pass

QUALITY CHECKS

What should you check before shipping a generated model?

Generation is the cheap part. These four checks are what separate a usable asset from a file that gets rebuilt:

  • Scale and units - A door generated at 20 cm will break every scene it enters. Set the unit scale first and keep real-world dimensions in the prompt.
  • Density where it matters - Hero surfaces need the polygons; the back of a prop does not. Reduce density first, then retopologise the parts that deform.
  • UVs before textures - If the asset needs custom materials, unwrap before you bake or paint. Generated UVs are a starting point, not a final layout.
  • Export checks - Open the exported file once in the target engine before you hand it over: axis orientation and material slots are the two things that surprise people.

3D model generator questions

What people ask before they replace a modelling pass.

Can Blender generate 3D models from text?⌄

Yes, with an assistant connected to a model service. Blender itself has no text-to-3D generator; Blender AI adds one that produces editable geometry in the open scene instead of a separate download.

What can I realistically generate?⌄

Props, furniture, modular kits, buildings, interiors, product models and blocked-out characters. Hero characters with complex deformation still go through a human retopology and rigging pass.

How long does one model take?⌄

A first mesh usually lands in about a minute. The time that matters is the cleanup pass afterwards, and that depends on how close the first pass is to your target - a specific brief saves more time than a fast generator.

Can I generate a whole scene?⌄

You can generate sets piece by piece in the same file, or describe a room or terrain chunk and edit the result. Scene context is what makes the later edits cheap.

Do I need to know Python?⌄

No, but it helps at export time. Blender AI writes the repetitive scripts - batch exports, renaming, material assignment - and you can read or edit them.

Is the output commercially usable?⌄

Paid plans include commercial rights for generated assets, subject to the rights of any source material you supply. Check the terms before client delivery.
